How it works
Whole-body cryotherapy explained — from the treatment flow to the difference between nitrogen and electric cabins.
What is whole-body cryotherapy?
Whole-body cryotherapy exposes your body to extreme, dry cold for just a few minutes. No ice bath, no moisture: only dry nitrogen cold of −130 to −160 °C. Your body responds with a natural protective reflex — circulation is reorganized and the nervous system activated — and the effect keeps working for hours after the session.
At HEALFORM we use an open system: your head stays above the chamber, so you can breathe and talk freely. No confinement, no mask.
What does a session look like?
Your first visit takes around 15 minutes in total — the cold itself only three. Step by step:
- Arrival & consultation (approx. 5 min). On your first visit we briefly check your health, answer all questions and explain exactly what happens next. You fill in a short consent form.
- Change & protect (approx. 5 min). You change down to underwear or swimwear and put on the gloves, socks, slippers and headband we provide. Skin and extremities must be dry — jewellery and glasses come off.
- The three minutes (3 min). You step into the chamber, where dry nitrogen cold reaches −130 to −160 °C. Your body is cooled from the shoulders down while your head stays free. You move gently and stay in contact with our team the whole time.
- Warm up & feel it. As you warm up, circulation surges and endorphins are released. Many feel instantly awake and energized — the regenerative effect continues over the following hours.
You'll find a more detailed checklist for your first appointment under Your first visit.
Nitrogen instead of electricity — what's the difference?
We are among the few working with true nitrogen cold — not an electric cabin. The difference shows in temperature, comfort and safety:
- True −130 to −160 °C, consistent throughout the chamber — instead of only −80 to −90 °C in an electric cabin.
- Dry, pleasant cold, comparable to a crisp winter day.
- Open system: your head stays free, no claustrophobia.
- No face mask needed — even with asthma or bronchitis.
- Full-body application from head to toe in a single session.
Our Cryoniq cryochamber is CE-certified under the Medical Device Directive (93/42/EEC) and TÜV-tested. Read more under The session.
How cold does it really feel?
Because the cold is completely dry, it feels like −10 to −15 °C on a clear winter day — not like ice water. Most guests find the three minutes surprisingly pleasant and invigorating.
How often should I come?
The first session is often already noticeable. For lasting effects we recommend two to three sessions per week — consistency is what pays off most.
